“I write stories as a means to escape the reality of the real world. Writing is a means of a comfort to me as it calms whatever anxieties I have and has helped me with dealing with depression,” Sarah Jarvis states. In her book titled “The Midnight Rose” (published by AuthorHouse UK), she tells a story that centers on discovery, of finding family and a sense of belonging as one woman stumbles into a life she was not expecting.
While out with his friends one night, Yuan Lee sees a girl plummet into a nearby river. As the four friends rush to the river’s edge, Yuan dives into the icy water and pulls the floating, seemingly lifeless soul to the surface. After he unsuccessfully attempts to breathe life into the frail girl, she is loaded into an ambulance. Unfortunately, the experience haunts Yuan for some time.
Tired of seeing every other child being adopted but her, Cora, a shy yet defiant 13-year-old child runs away from her orphanage to find her own way in life. As her life changes in ways she never imagined, she is confronted with unknown dangers and challenges. Meanwhile, Yuan has become the manager of a health clinic that is dealing with the emergence of a strange illness that is also afflicting him. As fate brings them together once again, now only time will tell if Yuan can find a cure for his sickness and if Cora will find a way to overcome her internal demons, open her heart to new relationships, and begin her life anew.
“This book is the bearer of so many emotions wrapped up in one but also a sense confusion. It is about someone trying to find a way out of all that mess which in some cases can be relatable in real life,” Jarvis says. She adds, “In this book, as the young girl grows up and develops, she begins to fight against all that had held her back. Despite all that has happened she find even the tiniest of rays of light to hang on to, helping her through the fight against the depression that has held her back.”
When asked what she wants readers to take away from the book, Jarvis answers, “That no matter how alone someone feels, the smallest of things can unknowingly help drag someone out if that darkness that seems to endless and foreboding.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.authorhouse.com/en-gb/bookstore/bookdetails/821563-the-midnight-rose
