New book tells the story of a hardworking carer in her 40s who leaves the hamster wheel of motherhood and reality behind, using a portal to become the best version of herself
Nerak Coven wanted to navigate her way out of post-traumatic stress disorder after workplace bulling and being physical assaulted by the clients she had cared for. She turned to art therapy and writing for rehabilitation from which to rebuild herself and to engage with the community once more. With the story practically writing itself as if an instruction manual for the liberated times of great change to come.
“Walking the Never-When” (published by Balboa Press AU) is creative bait for conversation, connection, and change. It tells the story of Jodie Bow, a hardworking carer in her 40s who is looking for meaning to her life. Living in rural Darwin, experimenting with art therapy, she finds a way to create an evolving portal, giving her the gift of escapism from her domestic repetition. She leaves the hamster wheel of motherhood and reality behind, using a portal to become the best version of herself, a dream many desire, taking control of her future.
“With the pressures of climate change, many women and remote communities are leading the adaptation to new and better ways to do things. Women who work from the shadows, unappreciated, undervalued, silently changing, and improving their part of the world. While the patriarchy is beginning to struggle. This story gives this silent majority a hero to relate too so they do not feel alone in this time of change,” Coven says.
When asked what she wants readers to take away from the book, Coven answers, “I want to inspire my readers to speak out, stand up and find the courage to change and improve our society and world for the better. I want them to feel heard and encourage them to connect with others to make things happen.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.balboapress.com/en-au/bookstore/bookdetails/842823-walking-the-never-when
