Author Jacqueline Hartland’s new book “There Is a River” is an evocative story of childhood in a bygone era for a young girl and her four siblings in rural Maryland

Recent release “There Is a River” from Page Publishing author Jacqueline Hartland is a stirring and entertaining novel written in the voice of ten-year-old Callie Clemmens, who shares her life beside the river that gives her moments of joy amid the stress of her penurious circumstances, neglectful mother, and violently abusive father. Callie grows up over three years marked by childish triumphs and devastating tragedies, until the fateful day that changed her life forever.

Jacqueline Hartland, a lifelong storyteller who was inspired to begin writing after watching a school play in the fourth grade, has completed her new book “There Is a River”: a gripping and potent work that keeps the pages turning until its satisfying conclusion.

Callie Clemmens, ten, felt herself being pulled by an invisible canvas belt to the dreaded Watford Shoe, where all her relatives ended up as gray ghosts for life. Callie, in her desperation not to attend, found answers when her family moved to a tiny cottage on the Monocacy river, where gay vacationers in ten cottages around hers brought joy and tragedy into her life but erased the conveyor belt forever by what happened in a quiet meadow, a thing Callie thought would never happen.

Published by Page Publishing, Jacqueline Hartland’s engrossing book is an excellent choice for avid realistic fiction readers.

Vito DiBarone releases ‘Botheration Part Two: Waves of Dinosaurs’

Matty explores a famed dinosaur excavation site, but realizes nothing comes easy when adventure abounds and trouble follows

In “Botheration Part One: The Missing Link, author Vito Di Barone tells the story of the high school nerdish Matty who sets out to stop a cyber-terrorist plot. Di Barone now marks Matty Weber’s return with the release of its follow-up, “Botheration Part Two: Waves of Dinosaurs” (published by Archway Publishing) in which Matty explores a famed dinosaur excavation site but realizes nothing comes easy when adventure abounds, and trouble follows.

When 17-year-old Matty agrees to escort Freddie Carter to Dinosaur National Monument in eastern Utah on a school trip, he encounters more than a quiet intellectual visit. They were supposed to be there to see one of the country’s best dinosaur excavation sites, but instead, Matty immediately finds himself saving a young girl from New Zealand who is a paleontology major.

Amidst the chaos, Matty nearly misses his chance to score points with his dream girl Samantha Carter. He realizes that Freddie is more than a handful. Along the way, he fights the raging waters of the Green River and intellectually duels with a general and a Santa Claus look-alike as well as stories that tax even Matty’s intelligence. Matty finds himself lost in underground tunnels eventually wandering through waves of dinosaurs, before reuniting with Samantha and friends.

Picking up where Matty and his friends left off in the Botheration series, Matty gets into all sorts of trouble on what was supposed to be just another ordinary day. Most importantly, though, he continues his quest to discover more about trust, develop new interpersonal skills, and be more social.

“This story will continue to lead the readers down roads of adventure not normally broached by other stories. It combines action with self-talk, confidence with doubt, yet it allows the reality of the situation to dictate how it ends,” Di Barone says. When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, he answers, “That they want to learn to have the hunger to learn and read more of Matty’s adventures.”

  • He Was Saved From Death And Destruction, But Still Battles Bitterness and Despair

He Was Saved From Death And Destruction, But Still Battles Bitterness and Despair

Xulon Press presents an original work of Christian fiction.

Author G.K. explores the themes of forgiveness and consequences, ambition and reality in Alive and Well…Only Bleeding ($17.99, paperback, 9781662854750; $8.99, e-book, 9781662854767).

Baker Faraday was a prodigious guitarist with nothing but bright lights and fame before him until he was shot. Lying on the street with bullet holes through his left side and left hand, he reaches in desperation for a foreign concept, and prays. His prayers are answered, and Baker regains his God-given ability and becomes a disciple through music by assembling a Christian rock band known as Alive and Well. But his hand is never the same and the band doesn’t meet with the kind of success he’d hoped for. Was it all a mistake?

Meanwhile, a young man named Lorenzo struggles to start over after he nearly ruined his life with gang violence and drug addiction. Haunted by the memory of the man he left for dead; the Holy Spirit is his only hope of survival.

“Although the story is Christian fiction, I feel it can reach a broader audience based on the contemporary issues brought out in the story,” said G.K.

G.K. last darkened the church door at eight years old. Morally adrift, the author led an iconoclastic life of self-gratification, depriving himself of virtually nothing. Embraced in heavy drinking and recreational drugs as a young man, his writing career bounced half-deflated through fly-by-night publications, from dive bar reviews to a quixotic travel column, from a music critic to landing as a published roaster of professional athletes, always finding an easy landing through criticism, as disparaging remarks came easily. Then something changed. Marriage happened, three children ensued, and God reappeared. By His Grace, G.K. spun the wheel away from former habits and composed the first part of a fictional story, hoping to glorify the Heavenly Father through good works now and in the years to come.

Xulon Press, a division of Salem Media Group, is the world’s largest Christian self-publisher, with more than 15,000 titles published to date. Alive and Well…Only Bleeding is available online through xulonpress.com/bookstore, amazon.com, and barnesandnoble.com.

  • Author Scott Jameson Sanders’s new book “Driving Through Shaker Heights” is a coming-of-age novel that follows Sean Stevens, a young man who is on the verge of adulthood.

Author Scott Jameson Sanders’s new book “Driving Through Shaker Heights” is a coming-of-age novel that follows Sean Stevens, a young man who is on the verge of adulthood.

Recent release “Driving Through Shaker Heights” from Page Publishing author Scott Jameson Sanders is both a coming-of-age tale and a tour of the United States. With its memorable narrative, it’s a story about the promise of youth, the power of love, and one man’s dream of freedom.

Scott Jameson Sanders, an independent businessperson and avid writer of songs, screenplays, and now books, has completed his new book “Driving Through Shaker Heights”: a gripping and potent tale where two young people must make choices between their own personal happiness and the good of everyone else.

Scott writes, “When I contemplated my future, I wanted to be a success at something, but I simply didn’t have a clue on what that something would be. In many ways, I was a typical high school senior. I lacked direction and purpose and figured college might help steer me to something that made sense for my life. I admired many of my peers at Shaker, who somehow did know what they wanted to do when they grew up. Somehow, even at the young age of seventeen, they knew. From doctors to lawyers to inventers to writers to musicians, there was no lack of smart, talented people in my school. I just wasn’t one of them.

“To illustrate this point, here is an example of my brain problems. It was a beautiful summer day in Cleveland, Ohio, and the city’s professional baseball team was playing a doubleheader down at the old (awful, smelly, and cavernous) Municipal Stadium. The first game was scheduled for 1:00 p.m., and the next game would follow thirty minutes after the first one finished. No one really cared about the outcomes as the Indians were terrible in those days, and so the games were mostly just a poor excuse to drink beer. My good friend, Ben Goldman, was offered the luxury loge for this event, and he invited me to come along. He also allowed me to bring a date. I asked a sixteen-year-old girl named Mandy from my school, and she agreed to go. I’m pretty sure she still regrets that decision.”

Published by Page Publishing, Scott Jameson Sanders’s funny, poignant, and ultimately deeply moving tale is a coming-of-age story about a young man, Sean Stevens, who struggles to find his way in life. Propelled by a unique narrative voice, “Driving Through Shaker Heights” is a compelling tale of one youth’s journey through the trials of college and the challenges of adulthood. It’s set in the 1980s and explores the many facets of college life, from the excitement of a new environment to the frustration of underperforming and feeling out of place.

Readers who wish to experience this irreverent work can purchase â€œDriving Through Shaker Heights” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
