Instead of Pulling Friends Apart, Differences Can Bring Them Together

Xulon Press presents an original friendship story for children.

Author Douglas Gamble encourages friends to embrace their differences with What’s In Your Howl? ($14.99, paperback, 9781662864544; $26.99, hard cover, 9781662864551; $5.99, e-book, 9781662864568).

Even though they share the same environment on the mesa, Carlos the coyote and Alberto the armadillo don’t seem to have much in common. Regardless, Alberto is fascinated by Carlos’ howl and his curiosity sparks a conversation that blossoms into friendship.

“It’s a picture book for children interested in animals, nature, and friendship, and for all who sometimes struggle to talk about what they’re feeling,” said Gamble.

Doug Gamble grew up in the Nevada desert where lots of coyotes roam–and howl! He enjoys fishing, hiking, riding his unicycle and reading. Gamble received an English degree from Stanford University and has been a teacher of good books for most of his life in several different countries. He and his wife Laura currently live in Costa Rica where Gamble continues to teach. The two of them enjoy hiking in the rain forest and wherever else the trails lead!

  • New children’s book teaches young readers to be brave enough as they face their fears

New children’s book teaches young readers to be brave enough as they face their fears

Heather Millard announces the release of ‘Moonlight Monsters’

“I was scared by shadows on the wall of my bedroom and I had to be brave enough to get out of bed and turn on the light. I hope that this idea of being able to think about something other than what you are scared of might help lower the emotion of fear and help you to be brave,” Heather Millard states.

“Moonlight Monsters” (published by AuthorHouse) tells the story of Alexander, a boy who is around 8 years old and sees scary shadows on his wall which frighten him so much that he believes the shadows to be monsters. The shadows are called, Jangles, Mozzarella, Daisy and Ritzi. They have come from the office of shadows with the job of helping children find out how brave they can be. Alexander decides to give them his chocolate chip cookie and even though he is so scared, he confronts them and tells them to share it. Alexander then discovers that he can be brave even when he is afraid.

“Children have vivid imaginations and can create fearful situations where perhaps none exist. They need to know that in spite of the feelings of being frightened, they can rise above it and find out that they can choose their thoughts and choose what they wish to think,” Millard says.’

When asked what she wants readers to take away from the book, Millard answers, “My hopes are that this story will give a child the realization that they can experience a happy thought at the same time as being scared.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.authorhouse.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/820379-moonlight-monsters

David Ward announces the release of ‘The Hidden Secrets of 18 Stramongate: Gemma’s Visit Book One’

David Ward announces his entry into the publishing scene with the release of “The Hidden Secrets of 18 Stramongate: Gemma’s Visit Book One” (published by AuthorHouse UK), the first in a series of children’s fiction filled with hidden secrets, exciting adventures, and endless possibilities.

Dan, a dentist from Portugal creates a magnificent kingdom for all his young patients, by utilizing a futuristic and highly immersive version of the metaverse. Taking the reader into a quirky dimension of verisimilitude, where anything is possible. Everyone who enters Dan’s kingdom will return with beautiful shining teeth. Having experienced no pain; just treasured memories that will last forever.

“This book is unique in tackling a couple of issues: Firstly, I don’t believe there are any children’s books out there which confront the fear of dental visits. Secondly, the reader is educated about the real life issues of dealing with oppressive minorities. Such as the war, which took place in Rwanda, yet in a gentle and non-threatening way,” Ward says. He adds, “It centers on today’s cutting edge technology and is a refreshing change from witchcraft and sorcery based fiction.”

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, Ward answers, “A fresh perspective on children’s fiction that does not involve magic or wizardry. But something very real and plausible, which can also help young readers overcome their fears of dental treatment.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.authorhouse.com/en-gb/bookstore/bookdetails/836702-the-hidden-secrets-of-18-stramongate

  • New Children’s Picture Book Uses Different Hues to Explain Diversity to Children

New Children’s Picture Book Uses Different Hues to Explain Diversity to Children

Debut author Mickey Scotto takes her 34-year-old analogy to the publishing world

Scotto recalls shopping in a local grocery store when her four-year-old son, having never seen a person of color, asked, “Mommy! Why is that man’s skin so black?” All eyes in the aisle were on Scotto. She replied, “When God created the world, he used a big box of crayons.”

Based on that incident, Scotto was inspired to share that analogy with others by writing her new book, “God’s Big Crayon Box: We Are All So Much More Alike Than We Are Different!”, which is available in both English and Spanish.

“I want to reach and teach small children in as many nationalities as I can,” Scotto said. “Race, ethnic origin and diversity should not be an issue. We are all human.”

The book carries a message of diversity, which is displayed in print as well as illustrations. Throughout the 24 pages, Scotto writes about how God used his artistic imagination to create the earth and everything in it. She explains that God did not want the earth to be bland, so he used all the colors in his crayon box.

Scotto describes why God used different colors for different people and why he gave his people different languages to speak all over the world he created.

“When you see someone who looks or sounds different than you, remember God’s big crayon box and how much fun he had using all of his colors and how much he loves all the differences in his creations,” Scotto said.

“God’s Big Crayon Box: We Are All So Much More Alike Than We Are Different!”
