Cecilia B. Mañosa marks her publishing debut with the release of ‘Bitter with the Sweet: Savouring a Zest for Life’

New book is a collection of uplifting, soulful messages that invite readers to savour the gift of life

Cecilia B. Mañosa has lived an ordinary extraordinary life. Her journey is filled with twists and turns. She has loved and lost, been hurt and healed, moved and returned, suffered and survived. She believes that these are stories worth telling and lessons worth sharing — not just with her daughters but with everyone else.

“Bitter with the Sweet: Savouring a Zest for Life” (published by Balboa Press AU) is a collection of uplifting, soulful messages that invite readers to savour the gift of life. Here, the author draws on her experiences as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, widow, and friend to illustrate how life, with its ups and downs, is worth all of it. The book nudges readers to ponder their purpose, direction and relationships, and think about how to make their own lives more rewarding and fulfilling. In today’s extra busy and overly techy world, it serves to remind them to make each day and each moment count with those who truly matter.

“Life is not just what happens to you. It’s what you make of it. It won’t always be happy but it can be worth it. We’ve all heard about the lemons and the lemonade. It’s up to you to make yours sweet,” Mañosa says.

It is the author’s hope that intimate musings and experiential observations presented in this book will provide some insight into the reader’s personal growth no matter what stage they are along their life’s journey. • New children’s book teaches young readers to be brave enough as they face their fears

New children’s book teaches young readers to be brave enough as they face their fears

Heather Millard announces the release of ‘Moonlight Monsters’

“I was scared by shadows on the wall of my bedroom and I had to be brave enough to get out of bed and turn on the light. I hope that this idea of being able to think about something other than what you are scared of might help lower the emotion of fear and help you to be brave,” Heather Millard states.

“Moonlight Monsters” (published by AuthorHouse) tells the story of Alexander, a boy who is around 8 years old and sees scary shadows on his wall which frighten him so much that he believes the shadows to be monsters. The shadows are called, Jangles, Mozzarella, Daisy and Ritzi. They have come from the office of shadows with the job of helping children find out how brave they can be. Alexander decides to give them his chocolate chip cookie and even though he is so scared, he confronts them and tells them to share it. Alexander then discovers that he can be brave even when he is afraid.

“Children have vivid imaginations and can create fearful situations where perhaps none exist. They need to know that in spite of the feelings of being frightened, they can rise above it and find out that they can choose their thoughts and choose what they wish to think,” Millard says.’

When asked what she wants readers to take away from the book, Millard answers, “My hopes are that this story will give a child the realization that they can experience a happy thought at the same time as being scared.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.authorhouse.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/820379-moonlight-monsters

David Ward announces the release of ‘The Hidden Secrets of 18 Stramongate: Gemma’s Visit Book One’

David Ward announces his entry into the publishing scene with the release of “The Hidden Secrets of 18 Stramongate: Gemma’s Visit Book One” (published by AuthorHouse UK), the first in a series of children’s fiction filled with hidden secrets, exciting adventures, and endless possibilities.

Dan, a dentist from Portugal creates a magnificent kingdom for all his young patients, by utilizing a futuristic and highly immersive version of the metaverse. Taking the reader into a quirky dimension of verisimilitude, where anything is possible. Everyone who enters Dan’s kingdom will return with beautiful shining teeth. Having experienced no pain; just treasured memories that will last forever.

“This book is unique in tackling a couple of issues: Firstly, I don’t believe there are any children’s books out there which confront the fear of dental visits. Secondly, the reader is educated about the real life issues of dealing with oppressive minorities. Such as the war, which took place in Rwanda, yet in a gentle and non-threatening way,” Ward says. He adds, “It centers on today’s cutting edge technology and is a refreshing change from witchcraft and sorcery based fiction.”

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, Ward answers, “A fresh perspective on children’s fiction that does not involve magic or wizardry. But something very real and plausible, which can also help young readers overcome their fears of dental treatment.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.authorhouse.com/en-gb/bookstore/bookdetails/836702-the-hidden-secrets-of-18-stramongate

  • Dr. Don Worth releases ‘Good News, Bad News, Who Can Tell?’

Dr. Don Worth releases ‘Good News, Bad News, Who Can Tell?’

New book shares lessons of the pandemic through poetry and stories by 18 people from India and the US with space to list the lessons learned

As a psychologist in rural West Virginia during the pandemic, Don Worth, Ph.D. was surprised that many of his patients got better during the stay-at-home orders, and yet when restrictions were lifted, they drifted back to old routines and their symptoms worsened. He wanted to offer an opportunity to identify the lessons of those times, behaviors and practices that were making people well despite circumstances and apply this wisdom now and especially when engaged in difficulties, in order to foster growth and wellness.

“Good News, Bad News, Who Can Tell? The Pandemic Reveals Wisdom” (published by Archway Publishing) offers a variety of touching stories, lyrics, and poems written by people who represent nine categories of those on the frontlines of the pandemic (educators, COVID-19 survivors, artists, clergy, those who lost loved ones, students, physicians, restauranteurs, and journalists) from the U.S. and India, regarding experiences, lessons and wisdom they acquired. Several names may be recognizable as people from the area.

A novel interpretation of the parable is presented as well as a framing (a figure 8) that provides some perspective and guidance as people move through the various trials and tribulations of life, and through challenges of mental illness and substance use. This book also includes a chapter titled “Signs of the Times” which highlights a variety of creative and amusing signs during the pandemic. Even some clever bathroom signs. The summary outlines lessons learned and wisdom gained by Dr. Worth from struggling through the pandemic in rural West Virginia, as a psychotherapist on the frontlines, and from reading the heartfelt stories and poems in the book.

“My hope is that your perspective and experience of life during the pandemic will be expanded to include ours, and that we can collect a library of lessons learned and wisdom gleaned that can inform our present and future, while offering a roadmap for life, learned from the sacrifices of so many. Space is provided for you to record the wisdom you acquired, your reflections and observations, list hard-earned lessons you learned and from no other way, identify contributors to your wellness and practices you wish to implement or maintain, and even space for your creative expressions by poem, story, or photography,” Dr. Worth says.

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the book, Dr. Worth answers, “An opportunity to reflect on their own experiences and wisdom gleaned during the pandemic. To expand their perspective from reading the wholehearted expressions of a vast variety of folks like us. To gain new wisdom and tools in order to grow through other challenges. To simply be entertained and amazed by the strength of the human spirit.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.archwaypublishing.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/838122-good-news-bad-news-who-can-tell

Joseph B. Konrad releases ‘An Engineer in a New World: Beautiful’

In this novel, an engineer who finds himself an unknown world must step into a new identity and become braver than he ever imagined

Debuting author Joseph B. Konrad brings a new blood into the Isekai genre with the release of “An Engineer in a New World: Beautiful Horizon” (published by AuthorHouse UK).

This book tells the story of Jacob Taylor, an engineer from the future who suffers a fatal accident just when an otherworldly prince dies. Because of the failure of the universe, the two soul’s destiny entwines. From that point, Jacob finds himself living the life of a noble in the medieval era. He will need to face many trials as Matrios Hritan, a prince of a fallen empire, while otherworldly demons and arcane entities threaten the world.

“These kind of stories are really needed nowadays,” the author states. “20 out of 30 anime is an Isekai and this subculture grew gigantic in the last 10 years. However, this story will not go that way what way those goes. It somewhat stays on the surface of reality. In my book, the hero is not a warrior; he is an engineer who need people around him, and this gives the most part of the book. How the world react to his moves, like a chess game without proper tactics. A well organised chaos in a world what needs to be saved.”

When asked what he wants readers to take away from the story, Konrad responds, “Learn that a broken soul can be one again and fly if the environment is right for him.”

  • New Children’s Picture Book Uses Different Hues to Explain Diversity to Children

New Children’s Picture Book Uses Different Hues to Explain Diversity to Children

Debut author Mickey Scotto takes her 34-year-old analogy to the publishing world

Scotto recalls shopping in a local grocery store when her four-year-old son, having never seen a person of color, asked, “Mommy! Why is that man’s skin so black?” All eyes in the aisle were on Scotto. She replied, “When God created the world, he used a big box of crayons.”

Based on that incident, Scotto was inspired to share that analogy with others by writing her new book, “God’s Big Crayon Box: We Are All So Much More Alike Than We Are Different!”, which is available in both English and Spanish.

“I want to reach and teach small children in as many nationalities as I can,” Scotto said. “Race, ethnic origin and diversity should not be an issue. We are all human.”

The book carries a message of diversity, which is displayed in print as well as illustrations. Throughout the 24 pages, Scotto writes about how God used his artistic imagination to create the earth and everything in it. She explains that God did not want the earth to be bland, so he used all the colors in his crayon box.

Scotto describes why God used different colors for different people and why he gave his people different languages to speak all over the world he created.

“When you see someone who looks or sounds different than you, remember God’s big crayon box and how much fun he had using all of his colors and how much he loves all the differences in his creations,” Scotto said.

“God’s Big Crayon Box: We Are All So Much More Alike Than We Are Different!”
