Author David Johnson details his observations and guidelines for improvement
“American Idols: The American Church’s Compromise, and How to Correct Course,” by pastor David M. Johnson, gives the author’s account on how the Church has adopted society’s standards, and has placed them before God’s.
Johnson was born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI where he is Co-Pastor at Kalamazoo Community Church. He has served there for 22 years He wants to spread the good messages for Christians to understand and embrace what Jesus has to offer. Johnson, himself, became a born-again Christian in 1981 and continues his spiritual journey.
The book shows the author’s concerns about the values that believers have adopted both in and outside of church. Johnson divided the work into chapters, based on various idols he feels have replaced God in Christians’ lives. He describes the compromises believers use when mixing idols with their faith.
The book contains a hopeful message, however. Johnson describes the blessing of the full life promises available, and good things in store, once churches and their people remember to put God first.
“People of faith and churches are talking and putting politics first,” David says, “We need to remember to put the Kingdom of God first, and deliver messages that give hope to others.”
